Last month, Wendy Williams filed for divorce after 21 years of marriage. Wendy William’s husband, Kevin Hunter, came under fire after news broke that Hunter allegedly fathered a child with his mistress.
Hunter has addressed the scandal by saying he was “not proud of my recent actions.” He continues his statement by saying, “I am going through a time of self-reflection and am trying to right some wrongs…No matter what the outcome is or what the future holds, we are still The Hunter Family and I will continue to work with and fully support my wife in this business and through any and all obstacles she may face living her new life of sobriety, while I also work on mine.”
Since then, Williams has cut ties with Hunter professionally, removing him as an executive producer of the Wendy Williams Show.
Hunter filed a response to Williams’ divorce petition earlier this week, requesting Williams’ pay him both spousal and child support.
The pair has an 18-year-old son together. Hunter is also requesting Williams be responsible for his college tuition.
In California, the minimum waiting time for a divorce to be granted is 6 months. While 6 months seems like a relatively long time, many complicated divorces take significantly longer than 6 months. This is because both parties to come to an agreement on all issues.
If an agreement is not able to be reached after attempts to negotiate as well as attending mediation, the case will need to go to trial. This will drag out the timeline even further. Due to the high-asset and high-profile status of this divorce, it is likely the divorce proceedings will last far longer than the 6-month minimum.
In high-asset divorces or in a divorce with children, it is especially important to consult a divorce attorney to understand your rights, your options, and manage your expectations.
