If you Google “Online California Divorce”, ads will pop up advertising cheap divorce services (under $200) and ready to file in 15 minutes.
But is it too good to be true? A divorce lawyer can cost thousands of dollars. Can it all be done for less than $200, conveniently online?
Firstly, if your divorce is contested, meaning you and your spouse do not agree on all issues, such as division of assets and debts, child custody, spousal support, child support, etc., then you will not qualify for an online divorce.
If your case is uncontested, divorce paperwork is still often lengthy, confusing, and stressful. An online service will assist you with completing the necessary forms, but you are ultimately responsible for ensuring all the information you enter online is accurate. Errors on forms can cause delays in the proceedings and can even hurt you if you misunderstand the information you are providing.
